SEAO’s Earth Week
By Sally Kim
During the week of April 22 through 26, Northside’s own Student Environmental Action Organization (SEAO) hosted a spirit week in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day: Monday was green for plants and the Earth, Tuesday was blue for water, Wednesday was yellow for the Sun, Thursday was Cubby Walk, and Friday was floral for flowers. The purpose of the spirit week was to spread awareness for Earth Day and environmental protection.
In addition to the spirit week, SEAO hosted a pledge signing in the cafeteria during all lunch blocks in which students pledged to sort their food waste. On Wednesday, the club hosted an afterschool litter clean-up by the river behind Northside. The event is the club’s annual tradition of making a positive impact on the environment and preventing the river from being contaminated further.
A few months ago, SEAO also led the Northside Thrift Shop which aimed to reduce clothing waste generated by Northside students. SEAO had zero waste monitors set up in the cafeteria as well as a film screening to raise money for their various projects. Their current focus is the Bird Collision project to prevent birds from colliding into our school’s windows.
If anyone has further questions regarding the club’s agenda or would like to partake in the club, feel free to contact SEAO’s presidents, Kendra Lachcik, Adv. 908, Gwen Casey, Adv. 009, Erin Franke, Adv. 908, or Luna Johnston, Adv. 108.
