Yeezus releases Yandhi
By Yonatan Derbew
“Yandhi” is Kanye West’s ninth studio album and was released on March 22, 2019. The album was released several months ago on his website under West’s real name, Yeezus, but fans have not caught on yet. On his intro track “LLJ,” West raps about his deceased mentor and savior XXX Tentacion, also known as Jahseh Onfroy. Onfroy died last year on his scientific expedition to visit the sun at night. In the track West raps, “On Jah, that’s a mouth shot.” It is believed that he is referring to all the haters out there that doubt him and his mentor’s abilities. This album showcases the best of Yandhi and also his ability as an artist who knows his audience.
West also brought in talent on his later tracks. In the track “Only Ones” he raps about his wife Kim Kardashian and their three children. In order to tell the story of his family, West features his wife and their children Saint, North, and Chicago. The beat within the track reflects Chicago’s inherited rap skills. Baby Chicago raps, “Rada Rada Oin Oin, I’m moving to Des Moines.” Fans are truly amazed with the lyrical genius of the one-year old. Many believe that she will carry on West’s legacy and become an even better rapper. West also hints at another big piece of news: The couple is expecting their fourth child. West says, “Heads up, South West is on the way, we expect him to be here by the end of May.” Although this is West’s album, Chicago definitely stole the show. This track may be called “Only Ones” but Chicago is the “Only One” that made an impact.
Throughout the album, West made sure that all his beats and features were soulful and well composed. However, in the final song of the album, “Bound 3,” West returned to his “Yeezus” ways. Rapping over the beat of “On Sight,” he raps about being bound to polygamy. The most outstanding lyric of the song is “Kim you’re the love of my life. / No Gandhi, I have more than one wife.” The contrast between this last song and the rest of the album full of love, family, and progression was a perfect way to close the album. Kanye has once again shown his beautiful, dark twisted fantasy.
West has come up with yet another classic. With hits like “LLJ,” “Only Ones,” and “Bound 3,” no one will even remember the misspoken words that he said almost a year ago in TMZ. The raw emotion and passion is contagious in his music, proving that regardless of how you feel about West as a person, you have to respect this man’s genius when it comes to music. This album is definitely a 10/10, would recommend.
