Rapper “Lil Xan” Set to Perform in Northside’s Very Own Bathroom

Rapper “Lil Xan” Set to Perform in Northside’s Very Own Bathroom

by Cristian Trandafir

Diego Leanos, otherwise known by his stage name as “Lil Xan,” has been booked by Northside’s administration to perform in our very own art-wing bathroom. With hit songs like, “Xanarchy,” “Inxanity,” “Vicodin,” and “Xan Man,” Lil Xan has revolutionized the music industry in a way no other rapper has. His music brings unique views about recreational and potentially dangerous drugs into public discussion. Being only 21, he is the right age to step back into a high school environment, especially one as raw and uncensored as a school bathroom.

It is no surprise that Lil Xan is making moves and allowing himself to star in Northside’s bathroom concert. In the past month, he has had to run from other high schoolers for insulting Tupac Shakur’s music. The police needed to be called in one case on March 17, when the rapper was eating fast food at a Del Taco in Redlands, California, and was confronted by a group of angry high schoolers. Lil Xan ended up having to run away into a local YMCA and phoned the police to escort him to safety. Due to the progressive student body and faculty at Northside, there is no risk of endangerment to Lil Xan, which is part of the reason he was booked by administration.

With well-known rappers like Waka Flocka Flame calling for him to be “banned from hiphop,” TMZ covering his escapades from crowds of angry people, and 34 published Soundcloud tracks, it is no wonder why Lil Xan’s music is blowing up this year. “Betrayed” has over 145 million views on YouTube and another 48 million on Soundcloud. The track also reached the number 64 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Cole Bennett, popular director, took the lead role in directing the music video for the song, being partly responsible for its huge surge in popularity. The song features lyrics about the depressant drug, Xanax, and how it has “betrayed” people in the rapper’s life by making them functionally worse after taking it.

While many would not expect high school freshman dropout, Lil Xan, to provide such emotionally charged lyrics, he is actually a musical genius, blending the genres of cloud rap and emo hip-hop in his music. His upcoming album, “Total Xanarchy,” set to release on April 6, will include features from YG, 2 Chainz, and Diplo. The young rapper says, “It's a lot of stuff people haven't heard. It's a very mature sound. I don't think they're going to expect it.” “Betrayed” is the lead single off the album, awarding it much hype with its near-200 million plays combined on YouTube and Soundcloud. The album will also contain other previously released singles in studio quality, such as “Wake Up,” “Slingshot,” and “Far.” Cole Bennett has also directed music videos for two of those three songs, with another rumored music video possible coming out for “Slingshot.”

Lil Xan has also considerably increased his networking. Obviously there is the performance deal with Northside, but he has also gained 2.8 million followers on his Instagram account. He has only posted five times, showing that by following him, you get more bang for your buck. His social media outreach does not stop there, with 364,000 followers on Twitter, 301,000 followers on Soundcloud, and 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Due to his experience with large audiences, Lil Xan should have no trouble fitting into a crowded bathroom. Lil Xan is set to perform at Northside on April 9th, one week and one day after April Fool’s Day.
