Be Logical and Check Out “Bobby Tarantino II”

Be Logical and Check Out “Bobby Tarantino II”

by Ethan Lim

What could possibly be better than Logic’s 2016 mixtape “Bobby Tarantino?” How about “Bobby Tarantino II.” His 2017 hit album “Everybody,” which was praised for containing wholesome messages, would be followed up by a return to his more traditional style of hard freestyle rap. Sir Robert Bryson Hall, also known as Logic, released his sixth mixtape on March 9, 2018, dubbing it “Bobby Tarantino II.” This release came after singles like “44 more,” “Everyday,” and “Overnight,” were released throughout the late weeks of February. “Bobby Tarantino II” is filled with rapid fire lyricism, which brings back his style of rapping from older projects, as well as collaborations with big names such as Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean.

The release of “Bobby Tarantino II” was a bit unprecedented. The announcement of the new release was made on Logic’s Instagram account a few days prior to March 9 by using a Rick and Morty clip to get his fanbase excited about his next mixtape. It is safe to say that “Bobby Tarantino II” is absolutely amazing. Each track has its own unique beat and great lyricism. In many of his raps, Logic calls out his critics while showing that he does not need to flex his cash to be successful. For him, it is all about the hard work and dedication to the rap game. “Contra,” which embodies Logic’s “started from the bottom” mentality, is his most streamed song from “Bobby Tarantino II.” He is out to show the world that nothing was given to him and that he is one of the best in the rap game. His other track that was featured as a single before the release of “Bobby Tarantino II,” “44 more,” demonstrates the passion and fervor he has for the rap game. “44 more” is a sequel to “44 bars,” a track that appeared on his original “Bobby Tarantino” mixtape in 2016. However, his latest iteration surpases the intensity and shock value of its predecessor.

Furthermore, Logic has collaborated with some big names to enhance the “wow” factor of his latest mixtape. Collaborations with 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, and Marshmello highlight some of the most popular tracks. It also demonstrates the rapport that Logic has with other well known rappers. Logic may not be as well known as some other rappers, but collaborations with big names shows he is well respected in the rap community. Creativity is also refined by working with rappers who take on a different approach then Logic’s freestyle attitude. “Indica Badu,” a collab with Wiz Khalifa, succeeds because it is a subtle balance between Logic’s sweet freestyling abilities and Khalifa’s strong voice. But, that is just one example of Logic’s greatness in this mixtape. All of the collaborations have a unique balance between Logic’s abilities and the respected collabee. Loyalists and Logic first timers will simply have to experience the songs for themselves in order to truly appreciate them.

Overall, “Bobby Tarantino II” is a fantastic mixtape and will be a great accolade on Logic’s career. Logic’s massive fanbase will enjoy another solid mixtape, while those who have never heard of him will be in for a treat. Is this Logic’s magnum opus? “Bobby Tarantino II” stacks up against some tough competition within Logic’s mixtape arsenal. “Everybody” and the original “Bobby Tarantino” are still popular projects, but “Bobby Tarantino II” definitely propels itself to the top of Logic’s list of accolades, as well as the Billboard Top 100 charts. It is now up to the fans to decide if this impressive mixtape is truly his finest work.
